I’m a perfectionist. That means I’m terrified of being anything less than perfect. Every mistake, no matter how small, and every little imperfection, no matter how irrelevant, all drag my self-confidence down. I’m a perfectionist. That means that even though I’m living a successful life, I see myself as a failure. When I look in the mirror, I see a mess. A hopeless case. Someone who’s lost. A failure. Even though I’m none of those things. But I’m not perfect, so I must be a failure.
Summer is slowly coming to an end, the days are getting shorter and colder, and I see autumn themed posts everywhere. The perfect time to reflect on the past few months. As always, there were quite a few ups and downs, but overall I had an awesome summer, which I’m really grateful for.
Some people have a hard time imagining what anxiety exactly is or what an anxiety attack feels like. It’s more than just feeling a bit stressed for a test, or feeling scared in a dangerous situation. That’s why I like to describe my anxiety attacks as a crashing computer.
Computers receive input and process that into output. But my computer isn’t always working properly. Sometimes there’s just too much going on. And then the input becomes too much for my computer to handle. So it stops working. It crashes.
Arachnophobia, fear of spiders, is one of the most common phobias. In the United States, more than 30% of the population is afraid of the eight-legged creatures. For the first 19 years of my life, I suffered from this phobia as well, until I unintentionally overcame my fear.
Keeping a mood journal is an excellent way to monitor your emotions and thoughts. It can be used to discover a relation between your mood and certain situations or behaviours. The way you keep track of your emotions doesn’t really matter, what’s important is that you use a method that works for you. You can write down your mood at certain time intervals, answer a set of questions whenever your mood changes, fill in a form every evening, etc. Some prefer pen and paper, others use mood tracking apps.
I decided to start tracking my mood a few months ago but I am still trying to find the method that works best for me. One of the things I really wanted to try out were mood tracking apps. I downloaded Moodtrack Diary, the most popular mood tracking app in my store region, and used it to actively track my feelings for two weeks. Besides Moodtrack Diary, I also tried out Emoly for a few days.
